Chilkur Balaji Temple History

It is one of the oldest temples in Hyderabad and is believed to have been built during the era of Madanna and Akkanna,  uncles of Bhakta Ramdas. According to various beliefs and ancient stories, the Chilkur Balaji temple was built by devotees who visit Tirupati every year. However,  he was once unable to do this due to a serious illness. Moved by his faith, Lord Venkateswara appeared in his dream and directed him to find his idol along with the idols of Sridevi and Bhuhudevi and build this magnificent temple. The believers were moved by such events and found a molehill in the place indicated by the Lord. Therefore, he started digging from that point until his ax hit Lord Balaji’s idol. Suddenly, blood began to flow from his wound, staining the ground red.

Then the believers heard a mysterious voice instructing them to pour milk in the area. Due to this, the idol of Lord Balaji emerged from the ground accompanied by Sridevi and Bhudevi. These idols were placed in temples. Since then, Shri Balaji Venkateswara has been coming to Chilkur to convey blessings to all devotees who are unable to visit Tirupati due to any reason. Surrounded by forests, this temple attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over the world.
