About Pune Metro

The Pune Metro was conceptualized in 2009 and the foundation stone was placed in December 2016. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) has incorporated both elevated and underground alternatives in the two partially functioning corridors–Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi–at a cost of about Rs 11,400 crore.

PM Modi will open the Aqua Line from Garware College Station to Ruby Hall Clinic Station and the Purple Line from Phugewadi to Shivajinagar on August 1, 2023. In addition, the European Investment Bank agreed to a €150 million 20-year loan to assist the building of Pune’s metro rail system. This will enhance transport for the city of Pune’s more than three million residents. The initiative is being co-funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

Since its inception in March 2022, around ten stations have been operating. These comprise five Purple Line stations and five Aqua Line stations. On each line, the operating hours are now 13-14 hours. There are around 27 trains that run, and the fare ranges between Rs 10 and Rs 20, with a whole journey costing Rs 30. Each metro train will have three carriages, and over 900 trains are expected to help commuters. Trains will travel at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour for 19 hours, from 5 a.m. to 12 a.m. every day, once fully operational.
