The chief priest of this temple is Shri Nalapur Sitaram Chali. According to Skanda Purana, this temple is believed to have been built by Rishi Markandeya in Dwapara Yuga. Attracted by the serene atmosphere of the Ananthagiri Hills, his rishi Markandeya came here to perform his sadhana of yoga. Thanks to his yoga sadhana, Markandeya went from Anantagiri to Kashi every day, passing through the caves and taking a holy dip in the Ganges.
